  • Beat Author Interview with 3Stri

    Stripe recently opened up to Beat Author in a new interview about his upcoming projects and his creative process when songwriting.

    How did you come up with the name 3stripe?

    3Stripe came up in Miami. Veronica always called me 3Stripe because I rock Adidas jackets everyday. It was only fitting.

    Where are you from?

    Toronto Ontario

    Why did you decide to pursue music?

    I was always around music growing up. I loved listening to it, and I loved performing it. The live show feeling. I could be dying but the minute the lights went out and the music started, all my problems just disappeared. It was like a drug. Later my interests shifted into the world of music production. I decided I would help build the careers of other driven creative beings. That live show feeling exists in the studio for me now. When were in the zone and were feeling the music and writing the right topline. In that moment I am truly lost. It gives me enough reason to stay in music.

    What other producers, songwriters and or artist do you see as your inspiration?

    Rick Rubin, Max Martin, Kanye West, Radiohead, Skrillex, Jimmy Iovine, Classical music is refreshing.

    What is distinctive about 3stripe’s production ?

    I’m not trying to fit in. I continue to create outside the box. I think its boring to sound just like everyone else. If you do that, you are not being innovative. Your just feeding the consumer the same watered-down shit they hear everyday. The listener should be challenged and they should ask questions. It’s been super fun to dabble with real instruments again. Incorporating real drums, guitar and bass has been super fun. I fall in love with new sounds everyday. I continue to evolve and challenge myself to top what I did yesterday. If it makes my body bounce then I know we have something special. I’m ahead of the time. Always 10 steps ahead.

    What is NTG?

    New Toronto Grunge is a music collective me and a few other creatives have started. I can’t say too much about it now but there are details to come 🙂

    What projects are you currently working on ?

    I’m currently working on the Veronica V2 mixtape, My final original production of the year comes out with CINDË a day after my birthday NOV 28 2017 ‘Trap Queen’ It’s such a punk rock attitude project. I feel that many people will relate to it. I am always writing on catalogue with my team for major label artists, The crew is getting bigger. We have many talented individuals like 5STAR, STEREO GUNS, OMAR JABER, CINDË, KYLIE, DALLAS and more who are all getting ready to release original content in 2018. Im executive producing on a lot of material these days. The roll is different but my ears are trusted. Management positions await and I am exploring these opportunities.

    How did you start working with Veronica?

    She showed up to the dojo (studio) with coffee. I knew it was special because nobody has ever come into their first session with a gesture like that. It was a sign of respect. @lohocams discovered Veronica at a restaurant and suggested we have a meeting. The rest is history.

    Can you describe briefly how the two of you work together creatively on a project?

    I can confidently say I put V through the most songwriting sessions one could go through in a year. I would challenge Veronica to write verse, pre, hook to ONE CHORD. No boundaries. I said ‘lets build’ Sometimes people say ‘it needs more’ No. It needs less. Focus on the melody. You should be able to write a song to a the sound of a doorbell. We pass the ball back and forth. Some say ‘its like having sex through the music’ because – sometimes she’s in charge, sometimes I’m in charge but at the of it we both put in the work and make something special. There are times we write to fully written beats. Sometimes its to a chord progression via piano or pad. Once that melody is solidified I build the production around that.

    Is there any artist you would like to work with , that you haven’t already work with?

    I’d like to throw OVO some trippy sounds. Getting in a room with (Self Titled Blink 182) Tom Delonge, Diplo, Skrillex, and Trent Reznor would be rad. Ultimate goal is to be in the same room as Rick Rubin. I want to explore his mind. I sometimes feel that when Im closing my eyes in studio, Im channeling the man. I know that sounds really crazy but especially now that I have an engineer working with me. I get to do what I do best. Listen. Thanks mom.

    What can we expect from 3stripe in 2018 ?

    2017 I put out a ton of remixes. 2018 we are releasing a lot of original material with the artists in the camp

    What do you like to do for fun outside of working on music ?

    To be honest, I don’t have much time for anything outside of music. Things keep getting busier and busier. I love it though. I am around music 24/7. When I do have the time. I enjoy researching different perspective on life. Reading is important. I love listening to classical music. I feel like it refreshes my brain from all the music I create during the week. I love my family, It’s hard for me to see them. This is all for them anyways.

  • Beat Author Signs Heavy Metal Band Burial Park

    Beat Author Records signed their first artist/band called Burial Park from New York/New Jersey on October 5, 2017. Burial Park known for their explosive performances and hardcore sounds are going to be what everyone is talking about going into 2018. Burial Park starts off this new deal with Beat Author releasing their first single on November 11, 2017 called Horror Heart and will be performing at the Beat Author concert that same night to kick it off.

    Burial Park has two shows coming up on November 11,2017 at the Beat Author Concert and on December 16, 2017 at the Rock’n Roll Christmas Show and charity event for Toys For Tots by Tripsquad Records both at the Blue Room in Secaucus, New Jersey. Burial Park’s Horror Heart single will also appear on the Metal on Metalcompilation cd by MOD’s Tim McMurtrie’s Tripsquad Records out of Northern New Jersey coming out late 2018.   • The Rise of Trap Music

    Music is often a reflection of life and the complex journey it takes us on. With every decade or so, we get a new subgenre of popular music that embodies the world of one or multiple cultures. Popular in American clubs is defined by its portrayal of gangland culture, as well as its grim atmosphere for mixing and mastering. Often considered the heavier, dark side of hip-hop.



    Originating in the early 1990s, Trap music came out of the inner city environment of southern United States, particularly in Atlanta, Georgia. Rappers such as Three 6 Mafia and Waka Flocka Flame are often seen as the pioneers of the subgenre. In classic hip-hop style, Trap music is a unique collage of various musical elements. It is a child of both hip-hop and dance music, creating a new sound for both the party and concert scene. It has been criticized, much like other subgenres of hip-hop, for exploiting violence, sex and narcotics. However, the genre itself was meant to be a cathartic emotional expression of the troubles that the inner city brings, particularly in Atlanta Georgia. The hard-edge mixing and mastering only enhanced the cathartic message of the lyrics.


    New Millennium

    By the early 2000s, Trap music was at its prime with new artists such as Yo Gotti, Rick Ross, and T.I., as well as producers such as DJ Toomp and Shawty Redd, who orchestrated a new rhythm from both the Rappers’ hard lyrics and the MCs’ Mixing and mastering.



    Trap music continues to evolve, with new subgenres such as EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Trap becoming popular in the club and party scene. Certain rappers and singers outside the genre have incorporated Trap’s style, into their acts, such as Katy Perry and Beyoncé. With Trap music already being an evolution of early hip-hop, it is exciting to see what comes out of Trap music itself.







  • Essential Keys to Mixing Vocals

    Sound mixing is both a precise and complicated process that often goes over looked. It is more than just making volume adjustments; it is the polishing of a song’s vocal portion(s). Sound mixing is the process of taking all of the elements of a track (i.e. bass, drums, etc.) and adjusting them so that they are each at their proper quality and position in the song. Naturally, Mixing vocals is the process of adjusting the audio from the singers/rappers to the ideal condition. The mixer adjusts the aspects of the recorded vocals in order to make sure it is both in its proper quality and position in stereo. This can include anything from erasing sound blemishes to changing the volume to its proper position. Mixing is a complex process with many hidden tips and tricks. To help you get an edge over your vocal mix, here are a few essential keys for mixing vocals.


    Essential Technicalities

    It is easy to get caught up in the natural feel of a mix that we forget that we have to establish the structure of the tracks before anything else. We have to first organize the tracks. To get the most accurate sounds, you have to the speakers and headphones that are properly accustomed to your mixing station. Make sure each vocal track is placed in an identifiable bin and name. If there were any bad tracks be sure to separate them but not delete them. You never know where you’ll find a unique sound for your track that the singer did not expect.


    Foundations of Creative Flow

    Once we have the structure of the song ready, now is the time to step back and actually judge it artistically. We balance the song as we judge the proper levels. One way to start the balance is though having an instrumental as a background reference. Even though this does not have to be the final beat, it is a good idea to have some kind of foundation for the balance between your singer and instrumentals. From there just be sure to make sure that your reverb, compression, and equalizing is on balance with how you aesthetically want to hear it. Sometimes we can get so into it that we have to take a break and come back to the mix later in order to hear the whole mix with fresh ears.






  • Why Hip-hop beats are important for artists

    When aspiring Hip-hop artists are practicing their music, they think that the most important thing to work on is their lyrics. How hard and fast can they rap on a dime? But what really sets great artists apart is how well they work with the instrumentals. Hip-hop beats allow for the rhythm to give structure to the lyrics, so that the listener can ride easily with the story the Rapper is unfolding. Here are a few ways that the instrumental beats greatly affect the final song.


    Out of the two elements of hip-hop music, the lyrics (rap) are certainly the most noticeable. But the instrumentals (beats) are what give the lyrics their place of being. Hip-hop is practically founded by the idea of taking a mix of existing things and putting them together to make something new. This is not only the case with the subject of the lyrics, but also with how the lyrics blend with the instrumentals.


    Notice how lyrics in Hip-hop flow wildly back and fourth the while the instrumentals are often repetitive and relaxed. This is a necessary technique for most songs since you don’t want the instrumentals to overshadow the creative impulses of the rapper. Rappers have been known to freestyle, so they have to trust that the MC will not pull a fast one on them and keep the beat flowing as expected.


    Now that does make the Rapper seem more impressive than the MC, but imagine for a second what it would feel like without the Beat. It would sound kind of weird, right? Occasionally this can work, but generally the rapper needs the instrumental beat as much as the MC needs the lyrics. Even rappers that often imitate the beat on their own point to the fact that a beat is necessary for the song to have its full effect.


    Now it might be easy to assume that one can create a generic Hip-hop beat and just use it for any song. But that couldn’t be further form the truth.   • The Equipment you Need to Create a Portable Recording Studio

    Portable recording has been around a while now but the quality that came out of it wasn’t quite there. This was a blow to a lot of artists that had the drive to create music but not the funds to build an entire studio or rent a professional studio. Today, there’s a lot of exceptional equipment on the market that allows artists to record a track from just about anywhere. Here are the basic things you need to create a mobile recording studio.


    Today’s laptops are more powerful than desktops producers used to work with years ago. In fact, a lot of professional studios use a laptop as the center for all their recording. Get a laptop that has a lot of RAM and a good battery life. If you want to get even more portable with it, a smartphone or tablet actually aren’t bad options.


    A must. Without the sound protection of a studio, you’ll need a good pair of monitor headphones to block out noise and let you focus on what you’re recording.


    Audio interfaces are getting small. Small enough to take on the go. If your music is based on virtual instruments and effects or leased or purchased beats, you’ll have a couple options. A quick search online will reveal some great audio interfaces with just one or two inputs.

    There are some great portable recording microphones available. some even come bundled with shockmounts and pop filters.


    You’ll need some software to bring everything together. Do your research- get the program that will work best for what you’re trying to accomplish.
